Coldplay will headline the 2008 Summer Sonic Festival in Japan.
The band made the announcement this morning by posting the fest's newly minted flyer on their website.
It's
unclear whether or not the popular U.K. group will headline both nights
(August 8th and 9th), but the Sonic performances come as a relief to
many, as they are the band's first scheduled dates since debuting new
material on a brief South American tour last year.
Coldplay is currently mixing the much-anticipated follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' in London and New York.
"Mixing
has been slow and painstaking but that's just the nature of the beast,"
guitarist Johnny Buckland writes on the band's site.
No word yet
on an official release date (the album is tentatively titled,
'Prospekt'), although reports suggest an early Summer release with a
massive world tour to follow.
The Summer Sonic Festival takes place August 8th in Tokyo and August 9th in Osaka and will also feature The Sex Pistols, The Verve, Alicia Keys and Fatboy Slim.
