TOKYO -- "An Inconvenient Truth" has set new records for single theater B.O. and admissions in Japan, according to exhib Toho Cinema.

Released on one screen in the Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills theater complex on January 20, 2007, the Al Gore environmental docu is projected to rack up a BO of 90 million yen ($849,057) on 60,000 admissions by the end of January 2008, when it ends its run. These are both Japan records for a single theater release.

The pic is now being handled in Japan by Paramount, after the original distrib, UIP, closed its Japan office at the end of last year.

"Inconvenient" is not the only hot environmental docu in Japan. "Earth," the feature version of the hit BBC docu series,"Planet Earth," topped the weekend BO after its January 12 bow on 275 screens, and after two weeks on release was approaching the one billion yen (49.4 million) mark.
