TOKYO -- Media congllom Kadokawa Group Holdings plans
to launch a page on YouTube to show vid clips by Japanese artists, the two
companies announced on Friday.
Skedded for an early February start, the page will
use software developed by YouTube parent Google to ID the copyright status of
videos posted to the page.
The artists who post on the page will receive a cut
of the ad income, together with Kadokawa. Google-developed software will link
the content on the page to appropriate ads.
Kadokawa had been wary of YouTube, since much of
the posted content was pirated, but now believes YouTube is tackling
the problem successfully.
Last year Kadokawa group company Kadokawa
Digix participated in a test of the Google video identification and ad linkage
software. Seeing their effectiveness, Kadokawa decided to launch the new vid clip page in
partnership with YouTube. "We believe that (YouTube) can make a contribution as
a venue for discovering new creators and nurturing Japanese intellectual property," Kadokawa
said in a statement.
